Branding Case Study

Implement Legal

Visual branding design with deep symbolic meaning for a full-service law firm that specializes in helping creatives protect their work and preserve their values

About The Project

Overview

The De Vos Devine Law Firm was evolving. Their exciting growth meant it was time for a new name and a new expression of their brand. We were excited to help usher them into a new era with a fresh new branding system that would perfectly encompass the vision and aesthetics of this firm.

Challenges

The law firm was expanding and as a result the key stakeholders were incredibly busy. The stakeholders were also deeply invested in the success of the branding project and wanted to feel involved with the process. Our challenge was to make sure they were included at strategic touch points so that we could fully understand their vision without taking too much of their time. It was important to find a balance so that the client could feel a sense of ownership in the creation of the brand as part of the process.

Process

Discovery

We worked with the client to pull a huge range of references which represented the general aesthetic that appealed to them. Together with the client, we also analyzed other brands and competitors that interested the firm. Then, using data collected in client interviews, we put together a succinct edit of the numerous references to create a moodboard as a place to start.

Design

From there we put together a range of logo options to discuss with the client. There were elements from each option that resonated with them that we carried into a second round of design.

As part of our discovery, we dove deep to understand the culture, history  and philosophies that make this firm special.

They shared a diagram that had 8-points where each point represented a distinct aspect of their firm and how they structured their client services. The firm’s principal explained that the 8-pointed star also had a deep, symbolic meaning for them on a personal level which is why they used the diagram to structure their services. We incorporated this imagery into our designs to add another layer of meaning for the client.

Brand Guide

The client selected a logo option and a color palette from our second round  and we began the process of building the visual language which we compiled into a complete branding guide. We developed a set of icons and other visual elements to represent the many facets of the firm.

Website Design

From there, we began to roll out the branding across our UI designs for the custom website. The designs reflect a sense of warm, elevated luxury, which would appeal to the firm’s design-conscious clientele.

Outcome

“Thank you for the fantastic work. I'm so impressed with your ability to take the cultural soup I throw at you and create such powerful, clear assets. You're incredibly talented and we're so lucky to work with you. “
